Happy Birthday Dali!
You are inspiration in my life!
Above is one of my favorite paintings:”Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening”
This painting depicts the dreamscape of his wife Gala, a moment before she awakes. Notice that everything is floating (Dali loved science and the idea of atoms floating separately from each other while still composing the same element). Symbols burst all around her: the elongated elephants, the tigers, the beast of man (rifle), and the fruit of fertility.
We can actually see where dream and reality deviate, as on the right of the woman is the dream (grand and furious) and on the left is the reality (a small buzzing bee). Dali loved painting his wife and even put in an obvious “heart shadow” next to her to make his adoration visible.
Thank you Dali for this painting and for a lifetime of surreal majesty!
